Food and sex, love and death. They happen to all of us, but not equally.

It’s February 2004 in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. Life is good but also cold, boring, and bourgeois smug. So when you spot someone who, decades ago, handed you a Trotskyist leaflet at the Whitehall Street Induction Center in New York City, of course you follow him. Why wouldn’t you?

This is the story of a man who stumbles across a small piece of his past that’s haunted him since 1968 and, on a whim, sets out to uncover the truths and lies behind it. What he finds instead is a beautiful and mysterious secret agent, murder, and a guerilla band of ruthless rogue capitalists intent on capturing an unlikely, yet critically important, piece of the global economy.

Forty years late, here’s the first, and maybe the last, New Left detective thriller. The moral of the story is that there are no morals, only politics. Make sure your life is an adventure.

A Message From The Spartacist League eBook G A Southern

G. A. Southern writes a spy thriller with global and historic reach. What sets this international intrigue apart in the genre is the attention to the protagonist's family life. It is as if James Bond had married Moneypenny and left the Service for an ordinary career, household, and children. Moneypenny was certainly as smart, sensual, sophisticated, and seductive as any of the Bond Girls. Domesticity becomes tedious for such a thrill seeker. First womanizing, and then adventure, beckon our man from his Minneapolis marriage to begin secret sleuthing. There is a Mexican saying that when a man undertakes an affair it is like opening a second front. In his home life, the "shaken not stirred" bachelor's sensibility becomes a married man's mastery of cooking as he prepares quotidian meals for his wife and children. The children whine about his artistry and he sensibly advises them to pick out the walnuts. The marriage has also taken a toll upon the wife and, like Moneypenny, she has an edge and gives better than she gets. We get the idea that his irritation with her is because she has his number even as the escape and the derring-do of his foreign travel remain his secret. Big plot twists are surprises to us and to him and are enough to compensate him for his wounds in the battle on the home front. Make your own escape and pursue this intrigue.

A Message From The Spartacist League eBook G A Southern Reviews

A former avid reader, this book marked my return from a decade-long hiatus. And I must say its good to be back. I was willingly swept into G.A. Southern's world of suspicion, deceit and seduction. His film noir-esque writing style and a knack for witty conversation kept me tearing through the pages. A great airport read!
Good character development. Almost like G. A. Southern was writing an autobiography. Would recommend to all who like a good mysterr.
Great murder mystery set in Minneapolis/St Paul, MN. It's witty and sexy and the characters are incredibly interesting. I recommend this book to anyone!
You know that feeling when the roller coaster comes to a stop? Your guts are still catching up and your legs are wobbling. That how this page turner makes you feel. Great read.
Well written and entertaining. I had trouble putting it down. Kept wondering about the ending and didn't see it coming. Not as political as the title would imply (or maybe I missed something), but with special appeal to those who came of age in the 60's, or who enjoy characters who did.
I'd call it a page turner but you don't turn anything on a kindle. It was a page turner. Dead bodies, episodes of fornication and surprising intrigue all done with poetic economy. I really recommend this short little book which delightfully poked holes in my sense of propriety.
An absolute page turner! This story takes so many twists and turns you'll never guess where it's going next. G. A. Southern does a fantastic job of mixing both the classic Raymond Chandler noir style with the contemporary world. His dialogue truly captures what it feels like listening to cross-talkers there are three conversations happening at once and you're only able to follow because each character has such a pointed opinion.
I would DEFINITELY recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, intense, thriller mystery. Perfect for a long flight where all you want to do is escape to someplace more exciting.
